Admissions Overview

updated January 2017

Children are admitted to BNS by lottery.

Brooklyn New School is piloting a new admissions policy designed to help foster diversity within the school. The DOE will prioritize students eligible for Free and Reduced Price Lunch. You can indicate on your application if your child qualifies for Free and Reduced Price Lunch.

There is no entrance test and no pre-admission interview. BNS is not a zoned school; children who live in Brooklyn are eligible to apply. Districts 13, 14, 15 and 16 have priority.

Families applying for Pre-K apply through the DOE and are asked to fill out a BNS Pre-K Outreach Questionnaire available here.

Families applying for Kindergarten apply through Kindergarten Connect and are asked to fill out a BNS Kindergarten Outreach Questionnaire available here.

Families applying for grades 1-5 are asked to fill out a simple application here. BNS fills seats in grades 1-5 as they open up, usually at the end of the schol year or over the summer.

Wait lists for all grades for the current school year will close in November.

Check the DOE website for information about citywide elementary school enrollment.
