Pre-K Admissions

updated October 2016

Brooklyn New School is piloting a new admissions policy designed to help foster diversity within the school. We will prioritize students eligible for Free and Reduced Price Lunch. You can indicate on your application if your child qualifies for Free and Reduced Price Lunch.

  • Our DBN (school number) is 15K146. We are in District 15.

General Information

The Department of Education has centralized pre-K admissions and places children through a citywide pre-K placement process. To apply to BNS for pre-K, families must participate in the DOE placement process.  Check the DOE website for the application and more information about the pre-K placement process.

Please also fill out a BNS pre-K Outreach Questionnaire here.  This questionnaire tells us about our applicants. It does not affect the DOE lottery.

BNS has pre-K directories in the main office. They're also available online. The directories list available programs in public schools and community-based organizations (CBOs).

This year, you'll be able to apply to public school pre-K and pre-K in CBOs with the same application.

Pre-K families are encouraged to attend a BNS open house.

If your child was born in 2013, check the DOE website for the pre-K calendar.

If your child was born in 2014, relax!

Open Houses

The Brooklyn New School hosts several Open House dates each year, so that prospective families can visit the school and learn about our approach and our community first-hand.

Each Open House includes a tour and begins the the Auditorium.  An Open House lasts approximately one and a half hours. Families do not need to register for an Open House.

Every Open House is appropriate for families applying to pre-K to 5th grade.
