Weekly Letter 9.21.16

Dear Families:

On Monday evening, kindergarten to fifth grade teachers open their door for Curriculum Night.  The pre-K teachers will do the same on the morning of September 29th. Teachers will present specific information on reading, writing, math, social studies and science.  They will discuss concrete topics such as homework and trips, while also offering their insights on how children learn and the importance of inquiry in elementary school.  We strongly encourage you to attend as parent involvement is  key to a child’s success in school.

We will also take a moment on Tuesday morning during our first Parents as Learning Partners meeting to chat with families about Curriculum Night and to answer any lingering questions that you might have.  In general, keep Tuesday mornings open for BNS as this is the day that we have set aside for parents.  We will be offering workshops, grade level breakfasts and PTA meetings, all of which will take place in the art room, room 103.  Please note that the next parent breakfast is scheduled for October 11th and is for kindergarten families.

Brooklyn New School is honored to host Chris Crass on the evening of September 29th.  Chris Crass give talks and leads workshops with organizations, schools, congregations and communities around the country. He is the author of Towards the "Other America": Anti-Racist Resources for White People Taking Action for Black Lives Matter .  Chris is one of the leading anti-racist advocates in the United States.  His presentation is co-sponsored by BNS, Brooklyn Heights Montessori School, Blue School, Maple Street School and the Co-op School.

On a different note, the Annual Book Fair begins on Friday in our beautiful library.  Thanks to Monique for organizing this.  It’s open from September 23 until September 29, 8:10 to 4:00.  Enjoy!

All for now,
