The Brooklyn New School is committed to academic and personal success for all students. We believe that children are creators of meaning. They are naturally thoughtful and curious, and they work to gain understanding of the world they inhabit. When the adults who care for children foster this effort, children become life-long learners.

PTA Meeting, Wednesday, January 11, featuring special guest, Leonie Haimson of Class Size Matters

Special Guest: Leonie Haimson, founder and executive director of Class Size Matters, an organization that advocates for small class sizes in NYC and nationwide. She's also the editor of the NYC Public School Parent blog and a founding member of Parents Across America.

Please come to an important PTA meeting to discuss a pressing problem:

Almost five years ago, New York State passed a law requiring the NYC Department of Education to reduce class sizes for all children. Yet today, class sizes for young children are larger than ever.

Here at BNS, we have 26 kids in most kindergarten and first grade classes and 30 in most of the upper grades. Too many.

Progressive, child-centered education requires close, individual attention to kids. Our teachers are wonderful, but how can they continue to provide the BNS education we know and love, with class sizes increasing every year?

What can we do to ensure great education for kids here at BNS, and across the city?

Come find out more!
