Abby Cook-Mack, former SLT (School Leadership Team) elected parent
“BNS is such a unique school but we have to do the work to ensure that it can continue pursuing the inquiry-based learning that we love. The SLT is a great way to be a part of that process. Although my time as a voting member is over, I still love attending.”
Meet some of us:
The School Leadership Team (SLT) brings families, teachers and administrators together to collaborate in shaping our children’s education. The SLT encourages all community members to attend meetings and learn about key topics and raise new themes of discussion.
SLT Meetings | Family Involvement
The SLT is a place for parents and guardians to come and have their voices heard by the school community and administration. SLT meetings are held on Mondays at 3:30 PM via Zoom and are open to all. Meeting agendas are written by a joint parent and staff committee and anyone can submit an agenda topic by emailing parent representative parent Marice Maldari (maricemaldari@gmail.com) or school leader Diane Castelucci (diane@bns146.org).

Department of Education (DOE) Guidelines
Every NYC public school is required to have an SLT that includes a balanced number of parents and teachers. CEPs are public documents, and the 2023 BNS CEP will be available when the DOE publishes it.
From the DOE website, Chancellor’s Regs: There must be an SLT in every New York City Public School. SLTs play a significant role in creating a structure for school-based decision making and shaping the path to a collaborative school culture. SLTs are a vehicle for developing school-based educational policies and ensuring that resources are aligned to implement those policies. Functioning in a collaborative manner, SLTs assist in the evaluation and assessment of a school’s educational programs and their affect on student achievement.
